This week’s article laid out the four places the gap between your work and your read can hide. Here is the expensive part, the reason it is worth stopping on before you burn another quarter working hard in the wrong direction.
Each of the four has a different fix, and the fixes do not transfer. Sharper language does nothing for a visibility problem. More visibility does nothing if the message people finally see is still generic. Interview practice does not help someone who is clear, seen, and simply pointed nowhere. So the single most useful thing you can do is not work harder on the gap you assume you have. It is to find out which one is actually yours, because that is the one where effort finally converts into movement.
The trap is that the gap you notice is rarely the one holding you back. The loud symptom and the real cause are usually different, and chasing the symptom is how capable people stay stuck while working extremely hard.
So the real question is not how hard you are working. It is which of the four gaps is actually yours. Below the line, a self-diagnostic to find it, the tell for each one, and the order to fix them in.
